Wander Women Adventures

Be a traveler, not a tourist.

We are a women’s travel company specializing in small-group exploration and focusing on authentic, local experiences. Our trips curate the perfect mix of nature and adventure, amazing food and drink, and local history and art.

Do any of these resonate with you?

"I've always dreamed of taking a trip like this but....

...I have a family at home and...."

....I would feel guilty taking a week to myself"

...I really can't afford it."

...I'm not sure I could take off work for a whole week."

What Makes Us Special

Just right price

Just right size

Just right balance

We are neither a luxury tour company nor a budget travel company. We offer that sweet spot right in the middle. The places we go feel luxurious without luxury pricing. Our accommodations are clean, simple, and attractive without being over the top. The restaurants we visit specialize in homemade cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. While we may see some tourist hotspots occasionally, our focus is more on the local history, art, and unique places that not everyone ventures.

Our groups are small, usually around eight women. This allows us the flexibility to travel, unencumbered, and to blend into our surroundings a bit. From our vantage point, we can see and experience the more authentic aspects of each locale. We get to know you as a traveler before and during the trip, partnering you with like-minded women travelers. Our trips are an opportunity to create lifetime friendships.

We believe in balance. Our trips build in some time to be a human being rather than just a human doing. Taking downtime to read, write, rest, meditate, walk, or explore on your own is as important as experiencing all the wondrous sites in our destinations. We will not be moving from place to place each night; rather, we have a home base for most of the week, from which we venture out to explore.

Our Northern Italy Trip

Highlights

Feltre

Feltre is a medieval town perched on the precipice of the Alps. We'll be staying at Alla Casetta bed and breakfast, outside of town. This will be our home base for most of the trip. Alla Casetta is a beautiful and cozy home nestled in a valley with a surrounding forest and a river that runs through the property. It is the perfect place to come back to each day for some rest and rejuvenation before dinner.

Prosecco Country

We spend one of our days first hiking in a beautiful local Canyon on our way to Valdobbiadene, which is the prosecco-making region of Italy. There we will rent bikes and take a tour of the region, stopping at some wineries and having a picnic lunch.

Rifugio Lagazuoi

Padova

We spend a partial day taking the train to Padova, the city known for its medieval markets and Giotto frescoes as well as the 2nd oldest university in Italy! There we will shop for fresh goods (practicing our Italian phrases) and then  return to our BnB for an authentic Italian cooking class. You will be able to learn some traditional Italian recipes and then eat what you make!

We spend one of our days heading up into the heart of the Dolomites. This day you have a choice to do a via ferrata (a protected hike with some rock scrambling moves and suspension bridge) up to the rifugio or take the gondola to the top. Either way you will be met with breathtaking 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and a delicious Italian lunch.

Testimonials

Kimberley just seems to know what women travelers want to see and do. She picks such interesting, out of the way experiences and provides a great balance between being "on the go" and downtime.

The trip I did to northern Italy was a once-in-a lifetime. Meeting Christian and Amy made me feel like I was part of their family. I truly did feel like a traveler rather than tourist! "

Kimberley's organization and planning of our trip to Spain was perfect! Her sightseeing and accommodation choices made for a magical experience.

Meet your guide...

IMG_1204.jpeg

I grew up traveling in the US and doing a lot of camping with my family and on girl scout trips. Oh the days of waking up in the summers floating in our tents because of the nonstop Pennsylvania rain! Even though I didn’t have access to world travel back then, I can look back and see my adventurous spirit as I begged my parents to let me and my friends sleep in the “fort” we made in the cornfield across from my house (this was pre- Freddy Krueger) or convinced my friends  to climb up on top of our elementary school to hang out and play kickball on the roof.

It wasn’t until I won a scholarship to do an exchange program in Colombia during high school that I developed my international “wanderlust” that has not waned in over 30 years! I’ve traveled all over many continents, sometimes with others and sometimes solo, and I’ve had many amazing adventures. In my younger years, I figured out quickly that the more cheaply I was able to travel, the longer I could make my trips last.  I was the master of budget backpacker travel. I could make one non-wrinkle dress and two pairs of underwear last weeks! I could sniff out free food anywhere!

Long gone, though, are the days when I paid $5.00 for a room with plywood walls (which turned out to be a brothel) in Quito, slept on the ground on pieces of bamboo in Thailand to wake up to leeches all over my body or “hitched” a ride on a cargo plane in the Colombian jungle. (don’t ask)

These days I call myself a “medium maintenance” traveler. I fall somewhere between the budget travel of my youth and luxury travel. I enjoy the smaller luxuries when romping around the world these days, like a fire and a good book or a hot shower after a hike or a cocktail on a veranda with an amazing view. I also fall somewhere between the “unplanned, go-with-the-flow, sleep anywhere I land” traveler and the “minute-by-minute, no time to pee itinerary follower” type. I’ve landed (no pun intended) on the idea that the best trips are planned but open and flexible. A friend of mine used to say “Hey, can we plan to be spontaneous next week?” That is how I travel. Planned room for spontaneous adventure. We have to make room for adventure to come to us sometimes. And sometimes it comes in the least expected ways…

So this philosophy of being a “traveler” rather than a “tourist” follows me into every aspect of my business. I enjoy creating trips for women that combine all of the comforts that we want (clean, comfortable accommodations, delicious meals, ease of transportation) with nature, art, and local experiences. And all with room in our itineraries for spontaneity and adventure.

Can’t wait to have an adventure with you!

Frequently Asked Questions

How physically fit do I need to be for Wander Women trips?

All of our trips will involve a moderate level of walking around towns and for sightseeing opportunities. Often trips happen in places with cobblestone streets so you should be able to walk on an uneven surface. But we are a group and no one will be left behind! Also consider that all activities are optional at all times, so you can always sit one out if it feels like too much.

Will I need a passport?

You will need a passport for any international travel. Be sure your passport is up to date. Any issues with passports being expired will be subject to the trip cancellation policy.
